Moms of Dogs: Khaléya & Bentley

Moms of Dogs: Khaléya & Bentley

This story is part of our Mother's Day "Moms of Dogs" series —an unapologetic celebration of the real ones raising fur babies with heart, hustle, and hella treats.

Khaléya didn’t just become a dog mom—she became Bentley’s whole world. Since March 2021, the Goldendoodle with a soft spot for stuffed lambs and Chick-fil-A chicken has taken center stage in her life. Bentley isn’t just a dog—he’s a sidekick, a snuggle therapist, and, in Khaléya’s words, her “baby.” And like any real one, she’s down to skip the party to stay home with him instead.

Whether it’s setting boundaries at the dog park or laying down house rules for guests (spoiler alert: Bentley isn’t getting crated just because you showed up), Khaléya parents with love, loyalty, and a little bit of bite. Because for her—and so many other real dog moms—this life comes with sacrifice, expenses, joy, and a bond that runs deeper than most people realize.

When did your fur baby come into your life?
March 7th, 2021

What’s something you wish more people understood about being a dog mom?
That being a dog mom is expensive and it’s just like having a baby.

What’s your go-to “my dog deserves the world” splurge?
Buying him a lamb stuffed animal, which is his girlfriend, & chicken from Chick-fil-A.

What’s something you’ve changed about yourself because of your dog?
I’d rather stay home with my baby instead of hanging out with people lol.

What’s your controversial dog mom opinion?
Don’t come to my house and think I’m going to have my dog locked in his crate. It’s his house too so he’s allowed to be out when company comes over.

How do you handle it when your dog is struggling—physically, emotionally, behaviorally?
Not well. I feel hopeless when I can’t figure out how to make my dog feel better or figure out what’s exactly wrong with him.

What boundaries have you had to set (with people or places) because of your dog?
Telling other dog parents to watch their dog when their dog gets a little too aggressive with my dog at the dog park.
